When the Thalia Power Station abruptly failed on a weekend, knocking offline the energy supply for 40,000 homes, Rainham Industrial Services urgently needed a partner they could trust to respond without delay. That partner was MITS Group.
Rainham had initially reached out after learning of our reputation for quality and reliability. This first engagement would cement a partnership defined by speed, technical precision, and unwavering commitment.
The Challenge
A critical breakdown left the station offline, requiring immediate action to prevent extended downtime. With minimal notice, our team had to be mobilised swiftly, mobilised over a bank holiday weekend, and rely on robust inspection techniques in a confined-space environment to ensure both speed and safety.
Our Response
Within hours of the call, our NDT specialists were on the way. Upon arrival, they quickly assessed the failing components and deployed a comprehensive ultrasonic thickness survey, not only focusing on the damaged pipes but also on adjacent lines. This proactive approach mitigated further risks before they could escalate.
All operations were conducted under strict safety protocols. Working within medium risk confined space conditions, we ensured every check, from UT, PT, MT to visual inspection, was executed with precision and consideration for the safety of the on-site team.
Delivering Outcomes That Matter
Despite short notice and the pressures of a holiday weekend, MITS restored the plant to full capacity within a week, re-establishing vital energy supply. Our additional pipe inspections and preventative maintenance averted potential future breakdowns. Rainham was impressed, not only by our technical skill, but by our readiness to meet them under any conditions. Here’s what set us apart:
- Rapid mobilisation, weekend, bank holiday, anytime.
- Technical depth through comprehensive NDT services including ultrasonic, magnetic particle, penetrant, and visual inspections.

Rainham now trusts us not only for emergencies but for strategic, preventative support too. This collaboration has set a benchmark in reactive NDT support, powered by expertise, agility, and client-first service.
Client Feedback
“Outside of outage periods, a lot of Rainham’s work is reactive at very short notice, due to unplanned downtime on our various customers plants. Once a station is offline, time is very much of the essence and we do not always get much notice to respond, putting pressure on our subcontractors to also respond with the same level of dedication.
I think I have called MITS 4 or 5 times for very short notice support, and I have always been accommodated, even down to the Managing Director answering his phone to support me on a bank holiday weekend whilst he was on annual leave. That sort of service goes a very long way.
I hope this is the start of a very good future relationship between our two companies.”
